Plays In Literature
Ahh. There is nothing better on earth than plays in literature. It is great to be in a theater, watching actors perform the way you want them to while reading the script. (Actually, going to a performance or even a movie is quite a bit better. A live performance trumps a movie because of all of the audience participation and applause.)
It is a lot of fun pretending to be all of the characters and making up voices for each one if you are reading a written script all by yourself. This can also be fun if you can find one other friend and assign parts to each of you, taking turns acting out the characters. Too much fun!
However, I guess if you don't really have the energetic spirit you can just read it without all of the funny voices. But that is boring and no fun at all.
I think I enjoy doing voices so much because when we were little, my mom always read to us. Lots of times, she would do voices for each character in the story. She was definitely in her element. She was so great at that and she always had a great time doing it. We would laugh and just love her voices. She sure was entertaining back then.
Seriously, try being the voice of certain characters, and maybe you'll really get into it. If you need some inspiration for this, try reading to some kids using different voices for each character. They will definitely be entertained. Perhaps you'll find you have a talent for acting. Don't go overboard though.
As a writer and director of plays and musicals, I love to read this type of literature from Shakespeare's times to modern times. I grab ideas from each one I read and add them to my own plays.
Maybe you are not a playwright or an actor, but you just love going to the theater. Then these scripts, my friend, are definitely for you. It's just like being in the theater. If you don't believe me, then read one you've seen before. Images from the performance you've seen before will bounce around in your head. Then, start reading some other scripts you haven't seen performed on stage, and ideas and images from what you read will start popping into your mind.
I recommend that you read a few of these acted out scripts. Trust me, it's like a one person audience. You have to read some to believe me! Some will be listed below for you to read.
